Today marks my 15-year anniversary working for the County of Wayne. Sadly, I will either be in a different position or working with a different employer beginning July 1.

My daughter visited the library and helped pack materials in preparation for closing.
The good news is that no matter where I work, I will still be able to help people with visual and physical impairments obtain better library service though Library Access Foundation.
Although progress has been slow going lately, I’m proud to report that the foundation has established a bank account where the GoFundMe campaign money was deposited. On Tuesday, I submitted our application and the $400 fee for 501(c)3 determination. So we are moving along, and I’m looking forward to the future.
As to a personal and vocational update, last week, I attended the Tri-Region Conference of librarians serving the blind and physically handicapped.

Last Friday, I visited the Taylor Conservatory to speak with the director about implementing a sensory garden.
While there, I found out the Android app for Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) was released. I haven’t had a chance to test it, and have heard that the Braille display support isn’t fully functional yet, but after years of waiting the app is available. Yay! Progress! Keep it up, NLS!
Today, I’ll be at the Work Group Development day for Michigan Library Association. I’m chairing MLA’s 2016 Annual Conference, and am excited to influence the future of libraries statewide. Send me suggestions for what you think will make the conference irresistible.
Imagining the future,
Vanessa
